Vancouver, WA – June 1, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Three upcoming events offer special opportunities to enjoy scenic beauty and celebrate Legacy Lands’ 30th anniversary in Clark County.

Anniversary activities for June include tours and volunteer efforts on properties open to the public for recreational use:

• 9 a.m. Saturday, June 6 – Participate in Ridgefield’s Big Paddle to celebrate National Trails Day on the Lewis River-Vancouver Lake Water Trail. There are a variety of activities planned, including water trail tours. Legacy Lands will have a booth with information about properties open for public use. Meet at the public boat launch at 5 W. Mill St. in Ridgefield.

• 9 a.m. Saturday, June 20 – Volunteer to maintain trails at the 40-acre Whipple Creek Hollow Natural Area in the Mt. Vista area. Bring work gloves and sturdy boots to help clear, resurface and maintain trails in the lush urban wildlife area. Register at parkhero.org.

• 10 a.m. Saturday, June 20 – Join city of Washougal staff for a hike through the rolling hills of Hartwood – Eldridge parks along Campen Creek. The hike is relatively easy over gravel and gentle slopes. Meet at the parking lot at the north entrance to Hartwood Park on 49th Street, near the red building.

“These properties showcase the value of protecting habitat along our urban creeks,” said Don Benton, Environmental Services director. “They protect habitat for young salmon while offering recreation opportunities close to our neighborhoods.”

Environmental Services works with public and private partners to purchase and manage Legacy Lands. Those include environmentally significant areas with scenic views, access to rivers and forests and important habitat for fish and wildlife. County funding comes from the Conservation Futures property tax levy.

For more information, call the Legacy Lands program at (360) 397-2121 ext. 4070 or visit the county’s website, www.clark.wa.gov/legacylands.
