Notices to property owners due out this week, information to help local jurisdictions
Vancouver, WA – July 4, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — Notice of Value statements are being sent this week to all property owners in Clark County. The notices reflect market values as of January 1, 2012, as required by Washington state law.
Sales from 2011 were analyzed to establish 2012 assessed values for use in calculating property taxes for 2013. The amount of property tax will be determined under laws and budget processes that apply to each taxing jurisdiction, including school districts and many other service providers.
Assessor Peter Van Nortwick said his office has made great strides in reducing the time required to update property assessments and make the information available.
“My team has worked hard to shorten the cycle by about three months,” he said. “This is a testament to their dedication to the citizens of Clark County. It will also help service providers size up the local economy and examine budget options in a difficult operating environment.”
Property owners have 60 days from the date on their notices to appeal property values to the Board of Equalization. Forms and details are available at www.clark.wa.gov/board-of-equalization/documents.html .
Meanwhile, county appraisers are in the field evaluating new construction that has expanded the local property tax base. “I want to thank property owners for their cooperation as we work to determine the value of recent improvements in the next few weeks,” said Van Nortwick.
