Council Roundup: Affordable housing strategy in next phase
In their first council meeting back from the August recess, City Councilmembers were given an update on the affordable housing strategy. The council approved staff's recommendations to move forward evaluating over 30 potential actions with only minor modifications. The next study phase will look at the potential for preserving or creating affordable housing in Bellevue, among other outcomes, and be used by the council to inform their choices of which actions to include in the strategy. During the briefing, staff stressed that further evaluation of the actions does not mean they will be included in the final plan.

Washington State Office of Homeless Youth awards $2.5 million in grants
Efforts to ensure that young people and families have the individualized support they need to avoid homelessness got a boost from $2.5 million in grants announced today by the state’s Office of Homeless Youth. Funding will support emergency housing and rental assistance, crisis intervention services, outreach to connect homeless youth with resources such as drug and alcohol treatment, and other assistance to young adults age 18 through 24 in communities throughout Washington state
Bellevue’s Highland Village apartment complex preserved as affordable housing
The King County Housing Authority has reached an agreement with local builder Intracorp to preserve the Highland Village apartment complex as affordable housing. The unprecedented agreement allows the 76 apartments to remain permanently as affordable housing. Intracorp had submitted plans to redevelop the property to build 87 new, for sale townhomes
