City of Tacoma and King County Office of Civil Rights Receive Additional $109,500 from HUD

WASHINGTON, D.C. – November 8, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — The City of Tacoma and King County Office of Civil Rights received additional funding for more comprehensive fair housing education and outreach efforts.

The almost $110,000 of additional funding was given to the City and County by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Fair Housing Assistance Program (FHAP) Partnership Funds.

The monies will be used to conduct training sessions, produce new or translate current materials and promote fair housing through the expansion of the 28th Annual Fair Housing Conference hosted by the City.

The City and County submitted a joint proposal to the Region X HUD Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity in Seattle for the additional funding for 2014.

“We are fortunate to have been selected to receive these funds,” said Tansy Hayward, director of Neighborhood and Community Services in the City of Tacoma. “This is additional funding to our annual contract for the investigation of fair housing discrimination complaints and the provision of education and outreach.”

FHAP Funds are given to special projects that further fair housing. Additional funds are made available by the FHAP when monies are not used through the standard FHAP contract process during the previous year.
