Hearing to consider election to start home rule effort this year

-

Vancouver, WA – May 31, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — A proposal for election of a 15-member Board of Freeholders to draft a home rule charter is on the June 4 hearing schedule for the Board of County Commissioners.

The 6 p.m. hearing will be on the sixth floor of the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St.

The proposal is contained in a resolution calling for five freeholders to be elected from each commissioner district during the general election in November. Freeholders then would have until the end of 2014 to craft a charter to put before all voters in the county.

Currently, Clark County is a “general law” county structured according to state law. If voters approve, a home rule charter could change the form of county government within limitations set by the state. The role and authority of the county would not change.
