Murray Morgan Bridge centennial celebration and rededication events Expect road closures and reduced access Feb. 14-15

WASHINGTON, D.C. – February 11, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — Friday, Feb. 15, marks the 100th anniversary of the Murray Morgan Bridge, which originally opened in 1913. To celebrate the centennial and the recent reopening of the bridge, the City of Tacoma has partnered with local businesses and organizations to host a week long observance.

Murray Morgan Bridge Week, Feb. 11-15
Tacoma Mayor Marilyn Strickland has declared Feb. 11-15 as Murray Morgan Bridge Week. Local businesses are celebrating by offering discounts and specials to customers. For more information, visit www.tacomachamber.org/content/murray-morgan-bridge-week.

Feb. 14 – Light the Bridge 5K Run/Walk, 6 p.m.
A fun run/walk will be held through downtown Tacoma and over the Murray Morgan Bridge. Participants are asked to wear head lamps or carry flashlights or glow sticks. The event starts at 11th & A Street. Advance registration is required. For more information or to register, visit www.cityoftacoma.org/MMB100.

Feb. 15 – Rededication Ceremony, 10 a.m.
The week will culminate with the official Bridge christening complete with a classic car procession, remarks from key city leaders and more. The event will be held at the approach to the bridge near the intersection of 11th & A Street. All are welcome to attend. www.cityoftacoma.org/MMB100

Road closures and reduced access
Due to the above celebratory events, there will be some road closures and reduced access around the Murray Morgan Bridge on Feb. 14-15.

Feb. 14, 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Reduced access:
• E 11th Street will be reduced to two eastbound lanes between the Murray Morgan Bridge and the 11th Street Viaduct (bridge on E 11th over the Puyallup River). Traffic will be eastbound one-way on 11th Street between St. Paul and Portland Avenue.
• Police will be directing traffic at 11th Street and Portland Avenue.
• The 11th Street Viaduct (bridge on E 11th over the Puyallup River) will be closed in both directions.

Feb. 14, noon – Feb. 15, 1 p.m.
Road closures:
• The Murray Morgan Bridge, including the bridge approach at 11th and A Street, will be closed to pedestrian and vehicle traffic. Access to the Perkins Building parking garage will still be available.
