A total of 205 new housing vouchers will help veterans across Washington state

HUD-VASH vouchers come from program Murray helped restart in 2008

WASHINGTON – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), a senior member of both the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee and the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development, announced a new round of vouchers to help homeless veterans access stable housing and supportive services. Communities across the state, from Seattle to Walla Walla, will receive a total of 205 new housing vouchers that will be distributed among the recipient housing authorities to help veterans.

“I’m proud to have a role in supporting the HUD-VASH program that provides critical support to some of our most vulnerable citizens, and brings us closer to our goal of ending veteran homelessness,” Senator Murray said. “Even one veteran sleeping on the street is one too many. This announcement today is another step toward fulfilling our nation’s promise to support our veterans long after the war is over.”

The rental assistance announced today is provided through the HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) Program which combines rental assistance from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) with case management and clinical services provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), a program Murray helped restart in 2008 and which she has continued to help fund every year since. Since 2008, more than 79,000 vouchers have been awarded and over 111,000 homeless veterans have been served through the HUD-VASH program.
