Sea-Tac Airport’s Center Runway to Close for Reconstruction
The Port of Seattle is set to begin reconstruction of the center runway (designated as 16C/34C) at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The runway, which was originally built in 1969, is scheduled to be closed between May 4 and October 30, 2015. Reconstruction is not expected to impact flight schedules, passenger traffic, or any other airport operations

Larsen Supports Affordable Housing for Homeless Veterans
About 35 veterans experiencing homelessness in Snohomish, Skagit and Island counties will receive permanent housing through a grant program that Rep. Rick Larsen, WA-02,has long supported. The housing vouchers, including 12 for Snohomish County, 7 for Skagit County, and 14 for Island County, are awarded through the Department of Housing and Urban Development Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing Program (HUD-VASH).
DelBene Praises New Funding for Washington’s Homeless Veterans
Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) today praised Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Julian Castro’s announcement that the King, Snohomish and Skagit housing authorities will receive new funding to reduce veteran homelessness under the HUD-VASH program. The program helps homeless veterans become self-sufficient by combining rental assistance from HUD with case management and support services from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)
Murray Applauds New Federal Housing Vouchers for Homeless Veterans in Washington State
Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), a senior member of both the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development and the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, applauded Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julian Castro’s announcement of new resources to help homeless veterans secure stable housing. Washington state will receive 240 housing vouchers that will be distributed among thirteen different housing authorities across the state.

The City of Atlanta announced today that the Department of Planning and Community Development’s (DPCD) Office of Housing contributed $300,000 in federal HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) program funds to help complete a new, affordable apartment project for low-income senior citizens. Water rate increases of 1.7 and 2.7% proposed for 2016 and 2017
In keeping with a strategic business plan approved by City Council last year, Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is proposing drinking water rate increases of 1.7 percent for 2016 and 2.7 percent for 2017. The business plan aims at capping average rates for all SPU services — drinking water, sewer, drainage, garbage and recycling — to an annual average of 4.6 percent through the year 2020
Public Works wins top state honors for two projects built in 2014
Two Clark County projects were recognized last week for excellence by the American Public Works Association’s Washington chapter. Building a pedestrian bridge across Salmon Creek near Washington State University Vancouver won in the structures category for projects less than $5 million.
